I was surprised at soem ot the reviews until I noticed how old they were. Khyber Pass recently reopened after a lengthy period during which they completely remodeled their restaurant. The new decor is beautiful and the service is gracious. The food is also excellent, from their naans to the variety of Indian desserts. My favorite dishes are the chicken tikka and the spinach with Indian cheese (I forget the Indian name for it.) Their buffet is also quite extensive and an excellent value for the price.

Just plain BAD!

I cannot believe this place was recommended in any magazine or book! We went for lunch and waited 45 minutes for our entrees! The food was bland and lacked any spice or flavor and the samsoas were terrible. The service was terrible and there was something floating in my water. Will never return to the again and would not recommend it for anyone.

Great Indian Dining Spot

This place has tasty food and incredibly inexpensive prices. Been there twice for the lunch buffet and it is so delicious. My friends and I had a leisurely lunch, we were at the end of the lunch time, but were not hurried along by the manager. The complimentary tandori chicken is so fresh, it makes you only wish you had more. I you go in the evening, you have your choice of buffet or ordering from the menu. Don't hesitate to try this spot in Oak Park..

Disappointing in every way

Posted by Franklin B. on 10/15/2007

I went here last night, after months of walking by it and seeing all of the articles about it in the windows. I love North Indian food, and eat it pretty often, so I was very excited to finally get a chance to try this place. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. The menu has a lot of variety, with an emphasis on traditional classics. I ended up going for the buffet, so I could try a variety of dishes. The buffet was small, with two meat-dishes and three vegetarian dishes. I'm a vegetarian, so I only tried those three. Very bland, very boring dishes, and not particularly good. One chickpea dish, one potato dish, and one spinach dish. The chickpeas and the potatoes were decent, but the spinach was pretty terrible. The Nan was definitely a disappointment as well. Poorly cooked -- mostly fairly crunchy . . . not soft at all. There were a few other typical Indian foods on the buffet, and most were not warm, or very disappointing in taste. The one bright spot was the Mulligatawny soup, which was quite good.Service was fairly unresponsive and slow as well. They do have a good selection of Indian beer here, but that isn't enough to make me return. I had very high hopes for Khyber Pass, but from the service to the food, it was a very disappointing experience.

Run away!!!!!!

I just went to their new location downtown next to the Hyatt. Being an Indian myself I was craving a good curry whilst I was visiting Chicago. I just cannot understand how they got a Zagat rating! The food was terrible. They got my order wrong 3 times! and weren't too worried about it. I spoke to the manager but he just seemed to laugh things off and had an air of not caring. If you are craving a curry then this is NOT the place to go to. Run away!!!!!!!
